The Criminals practice last week.

Yuma High at Lake Havasu preview

Kickoff: 7 p.m. today

Last week: First game for both

Records: First game for both

Players to watch: Lake Havasu likes to run, so the defensive line of the Criminals, and specifically Peter Franks, will have a big impact on Yuma's success. ... Senior offensive lineman Jesse Ray will have to keep Franks at bay and open holes for the Knights' inexperienced runners.

Yuma High coach Tom Fox's comments: "I don't have any concerns about our conditioning or how hard we're going to play, I believe in that, but we're still coming together."

The lowdown: Even though the teams play later this season in a region contest, Fox said that they'll run the full playbook - sort of. He said that there are still a few plays not ready to be introduced to the offense, but anything held back is not being kept for purposes of surprising the Knights next month. ... Yuma running back JC Baker looks to open the season strong after running for nearly 1,200 yards last year. ... Donte Jackson will handle things under center for the Criminals, returning after missing six games last season. ... Fox begins his second season with the Crims - the past two Yuma coaches lasted one season each. ... For the second year in a row, Yuma plays an 11-game regular season. ... The Knights enter the game without many seniors as they enter an extreme rebuilding mode.
