YC's Milone to play college football
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Opposing offensive linemen had their hands full trying to keep Angelo Milone out of the backfield.
Now the Yuma Catholic defensive end will be rushing quarterbacks at the collegiate level.
Milone signed to play for Benedictine College, an NAIA Division II school in Atchison, Kan., next season.
"It's an excellent opportunity to further my football goals. I think it's going to be a great fit at the college," Milone said. "It's a good education, it has a solid football program and it's a smaller, dedicated school."
Milone recorded 54 tackles, defended three passes, recovered a fumble and tallied a team-high 5.5 sacks, while helping the Shamrocks to an undefeated regular season last year.
"Angelo doesn't shy away from contact and playing hard was never an issue," YC coach Rhett Stallworth said. "Angelo, with his size, was difficult to block as a defensive end, and he played aggressive. That's one thing you can't teach people to be. Either they are or they aren't."
Milone, who added 20 pounds since the season ended and now stands at 6 feet, 4 inches and 230 pounds, said he most likely will redshirt his first year of college. He added that the coaching he received his last season at YC prepared him to play at the next level.
"It was a good four years," Milone said. "When Stallworth took over my senior year, I learned a lot and excelled. It definitely propelled me to the college level."
