Yuma softball stays in playoff picture
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Yuma High finished its softball season with two home wins against San Luis. The Criminals won the first game 13-0 and the second 12-2.
Yuma High (18-11, 6-3 5A Gila Valley) bounced back with two positive wins after losing the conference championship to Cibola.
Jessy Aguirre was 3-for-3, scoring twice and two RBIs in the first game. Chantel Villalobos earned the win striking out six and hitting a home run. Jazmin Reed also hit a homer in the first game.
Reed continued her hitting in the second game, going 4-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs.
Yuma coach Liz Huyck said there were lots of hits in the victories. The Criminals put up 12 and then 13 for the day.
The Criminals are ranked 15th in the state on power points and 16 play in the state playoffs. But because region champions throughout the state not in the top 16 get in before Yuma, they are on the bubble until other games are completed.
"I'm pleased with the way we bounced back after yesterday," Huyck said about the Criminals loss to Cibola. "We came back strong today and finished out the regular season with two big wins."
