Kofa gets big volleyball win
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Kofa volleyball team netted a big home sweep Monday against Lake Havasu, giving the team a confidence boost heading into the home stretch of the season.
The Kings (5-11 overall, 3-6 5A Gila Valley Region) got seven kills from Mimi Wright to help in the 25-22, 25-22, 25-21 effort against the Knights, who are battling for a 5A-II playoff spot.
While the Kings can't make the 5A-I playoffs based on power points, they can qualify by winning the region tournament Saturday at either Cibola or Yuma High. First they play San Luis Thursday.
"If we keep playing this well against San Luis and at the tournament, then I really think this team is a dark horse to steal the region tournament from the top teams," coach Lindy Scripps-Hoekstra said.
Kacey Nady had six kills for the Kings, while Tricia Porter and Ronnie Moreno had nine digs each. Brittany Ellis had four aces and 18 assists.
