Weddle wins three events
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Kofa senior Katelyn Weddle, swimming with the Yuma Heat, finished first in three events at the Arizona Swimming Age Group and Senior Spring Championships held March 13-16 at Brophy Sports Complex.
Weddle won the 50 breaststroke with a time of 30.27, and defended her 2007 state tiles in the 200 breaststroke and 100 breastroke. She finished the 200 in 2:20.49 and the 100 in 1:04.95.
Weddle will compete for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team at the 2008 Olympic Trials in July. She qualified for the trials in the 100 breaststroke at the Speedo Championships in Washington on March 8, finishing a full second under the cut.
In the 11 and 12-year-old age group, Alex Curtis finished in the top four in five different events. He took second in the 1650 freestyle at 18:49.64, 500 freestyle at 5:34.91 and the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:22.23.
In the 13 and 14 age group, Jonathan Duran placed third in the 100 butterfly at 50.83 and second in the 50 freestyle (23.24).
Andrew Russell-Cheung finished third in the 13 and 14-year-old100 breastroke (1:07.79), and Yuma High's Myriah Frabasiliio had four top 10 finishes, taking fourth in the 400 IM (4:52.65).
