Brackets set for 5A-II basketball tournaments

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

The Cibola girls basketball team will host a rematch of last year's first-round 5A Division II state tournament game Wednesday night against Tempe-Marcos de Niza, while the Yuma High boys team will be at home for a No. 8 - No. 9 matchup against Willow Canyon Thursday.

The Kofa boys also found out their opponent. The No. 13 seeded Kings will travel to Anthem-Boulder Creek on Thursday.

The Raiders, a No. 5 seed, lost to the Padres last year 61-35 as a No. 11 seed in Tempe.

Yuma and Willow Canyon were tied for the No. 8 spot in the power rankings, but Yuma won the higher tournament seed based on a better overall power ranked record, according to a disclaimer on the AIA bracket sheet.

All three game times are 7 p.m.

Yuma and Cibola could potentially host second-round games in the event of first-round upsets.
