Rams fall in second round

PHOENIX - Antelope flirted with success at the 2A-3A state tennis tournament.

 Madison Murdock lost in the second round of singles play, the doubles tandem of Jose Ponce and Sergio Perez lost to the state champions and Diana Bravo lost in the first round.

 "I'm pretty pleased. Once you get into the second round, it gets pretty tough," Antelope coach Jeff Peters said.

 Murdock beat John Greenough of Bisbee 6-0, 6-3 in the first round, but fell to Sedona's Luke Dunyham 6-3, 6-2. Dunyham went on to lose to champion Andrew Reiff.

 Murdock gets his shot at Reiff in the team state tournament on Monday in Wellton. The Rams host Phoenix Christian, which sports quality players at the top.

 Ponce and Perez gutted out a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Tombstone's Austin Ellis and A.J. Anderson. They then lost to eventual state champs Todd Jenkins and Peter Brown from Phoenix Country Day, 6-1, 6-1.

 Representing the girls, Diana Bravo lost to Bisbee's Amanda Lewis 6-0, 6-1 in the first round.
