Antelope opened the season and the 2A West Region with a big 5-4 overtime victory over rival Yuma Catholic on Monday, ending five years of frustration.

The Rams scored twice in the second 10-minute period in overtimeto secure their first victory over the Shamrocks (0-1, 0-1 2A West) in the past five years.

Senior Edgar Urbano scored on a solo breakaway to give the Rams a 4-3 lead. Miguel Maldonado assisted on a header by Jaime Acosta moments later.

Urbano scored twice in regulation. Maldonado finished with a goal and two assists.

YC scored toward the end of the second period in OT. Joe Gonzales scored two goals and Jared Peach and Abraham Muro had one each.

The Rams led 2-1 at halftime and 3-1 in the second half.

"That is my first loss to Antelope at least in my five years at YC," said YC coach Tony Tellez. "They scored the goals that they needed."
