Yuma Catholic third 
at tourney


The Yuma Catholic boys wrestling team took home a third place finish on Friday.

The Shamrocks finished behind first place Ironwood Ridge and second place Liberty High School at the Bourgade Last Chance Tournament.

Alex Demyan (182) was the lone YC wrestler to take first in his weight class.

Ernesto Sandigo (120), Clay Sierra (145) and Ryan Gill (170) all finished in second place for the Shamrocks.

Clayton Smith (195) took home a third place finish for YC, while Chris Anderson (106) and Casey Alexander (132) finished fourth.

Nico Franco (160) and Alex Varela (220) both took fifth place for the Shamrocks.

San Luis boys, Kofa girls headed to playoffs


Two Yuma area soccer teams have claimed their spots in the postseason — the San Luis boys team and the Kofa girls team.

The Sidewinders enter the Division I playoffs as the No. 11 seed and will play the No. 6 seeded Brophy at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Chaparral High School in Scottsdale.

The Kings enter the Division I postseason in the No. 14 spot and will play at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at No. 3 Highland in Gilbert.

The Gila Ridge boys team barely missed out on the playoffs, ending up .11 points short of the No. 16 spot in Division II.
