The Shamrocks placed three runners in the top-10 on Wednesday, but could not beat out Southwest's 1-2-3 finishers.

Southwest's Gabby Ponce won the meet with a time of 16minutes, 53 seconds and the Eagles finished first in the team standings with a score of 29. Calexico took second at 55, one point ahead of Yuma Catholic.

"We made it a close one for second," YC coach Ralph Farr said . "One of my usual top-four runners has been sick so I didn't run her, and another dislocated her kneecap not long ago."

Devon Graham (17:56), Samantha Barczynski (18:27) and Sarah Wentling (19:17) were sixth, seventh and eighth respectively.
