Lee leads Kofa as Kings run all over Sidewinders
Comments 0 | Recommend 0After running for 183 yards the previous week, Kofa’s Timmy Lee put on an encore performance in San Luis Friday night when he slashed his way for 279 yards and three touchdowns as the Kofa Kings toppled the Sidewinders 41-0 in the season finale for both teams.
After falling to Yuma High last week 34-20, the Kings (4-6 overall, 3-2 region) arrived in San Luis looking to reproduce Lee’s three-touchdown performance to finish the season on a high note.
San Luis (0-10 overall, 0-5 region) entered tonight’s matchup hoping to find a solution to its offensive woes and avoid a winless season.
Lee, in his final game for Kofa, passed the 3,000 rushing yards mark in his career.
Kofa jumped out to an early lead on its first possession. The Kings bobbed and weaved their way around Sidewinder defenders on an eight-play drive, capped by a 10-yard touchdown run by Lee, giving Kofa a 7-0 lead with 8:10 left in the first quarter.
After San Luis fumbled on the ensuing possession, Lee scampered 14 yards for his second touchdown of the night and padding Kofa’s lead 14-0.
The Sidewinders showed a little fire on their next possession when quarterback David Contreras marched his offense 60 yards, but they failed to score when Peter Lopez missed a 35-yard field goal to end the first quarter.
Kofa began the second quarter just like the first, scoring on a 20-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Lucky Castaneda to a diving Dominic Castaneda, extending the Kings' lead to 21-0.
Kofa continued the first half scoring onslaught when Lucky Castaneda hooked up with Dominic Castaneda on a 61-yard touchdown pass, placing the Kings comfortably ahead 28-0.
On their next possession, the Kings implemented a seven-play, 50-yard ground attack, punctuated by a 15-yard touchdown run by Lee to end their first half scoring with a 35-0 lead.
In the second half, each team proceeded to exchange possessions to no avail until Kofa running back Tevin Alford plunged 4-yards for a touchdown. The missed extra point gave the Kings a 41-0 lead with 6:24 left in the fourth quarter.
For the Sidewinders, neither their offense nor their defense could find a rhythm all night and they failed to score a point for the eighth time this season.
Lucky Castaneda finished the game 3-for-4 on passing with 90 yards. He hooked up with his brother, Dominic, on 60- and 21-yard touchdown passes.
