Montoya wins AZ Gatorade Award

The awards just keep coming for Cibola’s Bernie Montoya.

Montoya was named 2011-2012 Gatorade Arizona Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year last week.

Montoya is the first cross country runner to win the award at Cibola and is the latest in long list of acknowlegements he has already received.

The junior runner has already won back-to-back state titles in cross country and will shoot for a third in his senior season next fall.

“Bernie has a passion and love for the sport, and he desires to compete and win at the highest level,” said Cibola head coach Kris Norton.  “He fits the perfect mold of the athlete who never misses a practice and always pushes each and every workout to the limit.”
