Divers get Cibola's first points at state
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Cibola girls swim team got its first points in the 5A-II Swim & Dive Championships from divers Maggie McClure and Ashley Pena on Friday at the Kino Aquatic Center in Mesa.
McClure was fifth overall with 272.25 points and Pena placed 13th (238.75).
Three Raider boys advanced from Friday's preliminary heats to today's final race. Andrew Russell-Cheung had the third best time in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.12) and Ryan Keough was eighth (1:05.72) in the same event. Jake Kaba was eighth in the 100 backstroke (59.66).
In other Friday preliminaries, Cibola's 200 medley relay team qualified for the finals with a sixth-place time (1:48.00) and its 200 free relay team was 10th (1:58.47) to reach the "B" final.
Individually, Russell Cheung was 14th in the 200 free (1:56.65), Keough was 19th in the 200 individual medley (2:21.10), Kaba was 13th in the 100 butterfly (59.10), Jon Smith was 22nd in the 50 free (23.89), George Gould was 20th in the 500 free (5:33.82), Gideon Pace was 25th in the 500 free (6:01.02) and Jaron Boggs was 19th in the 100 free (53.18) and 24th (23.94) in the 50 free
For the Raider girls, Jesse Kaba was 19th in the 200 IM prelims (2:27.15) and qualified for the B final with a 15th place in the 100 breast (1:13.57). The girls' 200 medley relay finished 20th (2:15.46) and the 400 medley relay was 22nd (4:23.05).
